“Ode to my notebook“

Ode to the West Wind by Percy Bysshe Shelley, Ode to the Nightingale and Ode to the the Grecian Urn (by John Keats)… What do these odes have in common? Apart from other things, they inspired me. Because we read many odes in last period of time, I decided to write one ode too. Certainly it will not compete with the odes mentioned above – but it’s not a purpose. It won’t have any special rules – it’s my ode – ode TO and FOR my notebook : - ) – so it will have my own rules. I hope you’ll have a fun.

O my dear notebook, o my friend
I’m glad that I have thou, because when
I switch you on and rejoice with you
then everything is different…

Yes, I remember the times when I didn’t even want to have a notebook. I thought that it’s not necessary. And I thought that I could get along without it. But when the school year started and I was without it, I quickly found that it won’t be true. I spent much time on computers at school - (before I survive waiting in never-ending queues) and then finally found that the computer decided not to work. Then I spent much time in libraries… So when I finally got my notebook, believe me, it was a big relief. Now I regard it.

Definitely, it saves time – that’s one big advantage. And it’s much more comfortable. One doesn’t need to trudge anywhere and to wait. You have it in comfort at home : - ) Furthermore, it’s my radio, TV, photo album, telephone, “post-office” …. and connection with a world…
: - ) Sometimes it’s also a dictionary (but lately I started to dislike it, because from time to time I used some word from it and found that people didn’t understand what I meant… I mean especially seznam-dictionary.)

I am glad that I have the notebook.
But we shouldn’t exaggerate anything. So when I can, I try to use different sources. Printed books are greater than on-line texts. When I spend much time with working on notebook, my eyes often hurt me and sometimes I have headaches. Everything has its positives and negatives. But anyway, I think that my notebook deserves this ode…
